Hi! My name is Ariel and I’m one of Little Waves Coffee’s wholesale account managers, and most recently, an auxiliary roaster!

Roasting has long been a dream of mine, and I never quite imagined I’d be doing it under these circumstances! The last two weeks were some of the hardest in the Little Waves Roastery due to the precautions we took when a cafe team member tested positive for Covid-19. Out of an abundance of caution, we kept a handful of team members quarantined (and paid) during the two week period - thankfully everyone else was negative still after 14 days - and our backup roastery crew - who had been intentionally kept in limited contact with other team members - was brought in to take their place.

I had been trained in production roasting for this purpose, and I was grateful that when the day came, I felt prepared and ready to dive into the very physical, technical, and tactical job of roasting coffee. I also had the guidance of Areli in the roastery and support from our head roaster, Mandy, who acted as my behind-the-scenes engineer. We had many long days and deep sleeps after lifting buckets and packing coffee well into the night. It's safe to say that I have a newfound appreciation for the manual labor involved in roasting and packing coffee!

It is always amazing to see how a team comes together in a time of stress, and I think our Little Waves team does it especially well! I’m proud to be part of this hardworking and resilient crew, and I hope you can taste the love that went into your coffee these last couple weeks! 💗 🌊

With a very full heart,
Ariel Studenmund

Ternura is a blend of Brazilian and Colombia coffees. Ternura, which means "tenderness" in Spanish has tasting notes of strawberry jam, waffle cone, chocolate cake. This coffee is syrupy, sweet, and full of nostalgia, love, and inner child magic. It's also great with milk!

Recommended Brew Ratios:

Espresso: 1:2 - 1:2.1 (17.5-18g in, 35-38 out, 30-32 seconds)
