Ask a Pinup: Yaddy Duarte |
|
|
We caught up with pinup & entrepreneur Yaddy Duarte of De Oro Wigs for a quick Q & A! Here's what she had to say:
GGR asks: "As a Seasoned Pinup and Business Owner, what is your best piece of advice to achieve success in the Pinup World?"
She says: "In my opinion, being successful in the pinup world takes lots of confidence and self love. It should be about feeling good about yourself and lifting up others as well. Girls should be empowering one another and taking on the world together!
My success as a business owner is owed to so many amazing people in the pinup community that supported me when I first started. That's why building friendships and bonds with people is so important! You have to keep working hard and striving to be a better you. Your only competition should be the person you were yesterday, not others."
Thank you, Yaddy!! 💚 If you would like to be featured in our "Ask a Pinup" series, please email us for details. |

Happy Birthday, Bettie Page! |
|
|
Bettie Page, the original "Queen of Pinups", was born on April 22, 1923 in Nashville, Tennessee. Her trademark bangs and uninhibited poses have made her one of the most iconic models of all time. In addition to her fame as a pinup and lingerie model, she as credited as bringing fetish & burlesque-style fashions into mainstream popularity.
Besides being a talented performer, she was also a gifted designer. She designed and made many of her most famous bikinis and lingerie outfits, including the leopard-print "Jungle Girl" outfit shown below.
She walked away from the world of pinup photography in 1958 and lived in relative obscurity amid many personal difficulties for decades. She was "rediscovered" in 1997 and became aware of her status as a pin-up icon. In her later years, Page worked with several companies to recoup some of the profit made by those trading on her legacy. She passed away in 2008 at the age of 85.
Her fantastic style continues to influence both pinup and mainstream fashions even now, 50+ years after her retirement.
"I want to be remembered as the woman who changed people’s perspectives concerning nudity in its natural form.” — BETTIE PAGE |
